Larger Lens or higher resolution?

So this is based on a question I've read about whether to get an 18mp with 250mm, or 24 mp with 200mm. That brings me to many good points. At 18 mp, you'll benefit with a possibly cheaper and lighter camera, and the 200 lens would have to be great quality. It would be interesting to compare both combos. What do you think?
